“Make the most of yourself….for that is all there is of you.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
We’ve all made mistakes throughout our lives that haven’t exactly put us in the best light–like bullying someone in school or telling what seemed like a little white lie. Chances are, however, you probably felt a little guilt and grew because of the situation.
I’m an average guy trying to become better in both my work and home life. I’ll never be perfect, but it doesn’t mean I won’t try.
Here are three ways in which you will be able to become a good friend, one that everybody craves to have. It is time to up your game and be a partner in crime, in good times and in sick times as well.
Tricks of the trade to becoming a better Friend
Be a better listener – The key to being the ideal friend is to be a better and a patient listener. If you are good at communicating then your friend would actually want to share things with you. A good friend always listens to the other and tries to relate to them.
Start chatting with your friends and understanding them. When you start paying attention to what your friend has to say, he/she starts to feel appreciated. This causes them to gain trust in you and thus open up in a better way. A good friend always helps their friend out, but it is only possible if you listen to them.
Give them the space that they deserve – It’s equally important that you give your friends the space that they deserve. Similar to the space that you give to your family members, your friends also deserve the same. It is vital to remember the fact that your friends form an important part of your life. Without them your life would never have any flavor. When you start appreciating them in your life and give them the space they deserve, they start treating you in the same way. Always remember that you get what you deserve at the end of the day. Thus good deeds have good consequences.
Tell them if they are Wrong – A true friend will never leave you no matter what and will always try to make you avert from making wrong decisions. In order to be a good friend, rather the ideal friend, learn to be strong. You need to make your friends aware of the situation if they are wrong.
Similarly if any action taken by your friends is malicious, stand against it and learn to protest. At the end of the day this is for the betterment of the person and you are entitled to your responsibility as a friend.
The key to being the true friend is being supportive, protective and defiant in a reasonable way. As a friend you have certain duties and need to abide by them at all costs.
