Arjumand bore 14 kids for Shah Jahan in her 19 years of matrimony. 7 of them were died in infancy while 3 daughters and 4 sons survived. It’s a fact that Mumtaz’s death was indeed a maternal death. Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal as the love representation towards Mumtaz. This majestic building contained so much love and labor. There was much material and money put into this palace. The major material used for the structure was sandstone. Then, it’s covered in marble. Jade and jasper were placed on it. Solid gold was used to make the finials. Later, British Imperialists replaced them with brass.

The interior part of this building is beyond decorative elements of traditional usage. There are many precious gemstones within. The design of the inner chamber is an octagon. It seems the height of interior walls is 82 feet. The exterior decoration of this building becomes one of the best among Mughal architecture. It’s proportionally refined. Stucco paint becomes the major decorative element of the exterior part of the Taj Mahal. There are many motifs of calligraphy craved on it.

This area is open from 6am – 7 pm everyday, except Friday for prayers.
