The Early Life of Jacqueline Fernandez
She may be successful now in India, but Jacqueline Fernandez is not exactly an Indian herself. She was born in Manama, Bahrain, Sri Lanka, on August 11th, 1985. She was raised by a family with multy ethnicity. Her father named Elroy is from Sri Lanka. Her mother, Kim, is the descendant of Malaysian, and her maternal grandfather is a Canadian. She is the youngest child with one elder sister and two elder brothers.
In Bahrain, she received her early education. Upon receiving it, she continued it to University of Sydney in Australia and got her degree in mass communication. Later, she went to the Berlitz school of languages in order to learn Spanish and improve her French and Arabic. Due to her dream of becoming a Hollywood movie star, she began to get some training’s at the John School of Acting.
The Beginning of Her Career
Fernandez actually did not start her career as an actor right away. At the age of fourteen, she hosted a television show in Bahrain. Then, after graduating from the university, she worked as a television reporter in Sri Lanka. When there was an offer from an agency for modeling, she accepted it. This modeling career led her to the opportunity of joining a beauty pageant. The result was outstanding because she won the competition and became Miss Universe Sri Lanka in 2006. She represented the country for Miss Universe 2006 held in Los Angeles.
Jacqueline Fernandez then decided to go to India for modeling assignment in 2009. In this nation, she also went through some acting training under the mentorship of Barry John who is a theatre director. Aladin (2009) became her first debut as an actress. She played as Jasmine in the movie. Unfortunately, this film is a failure. She managed to win IIFA Award for Star Debut of the Year – Female, though. In 2010, she starred another movie titled Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai with an actor named Desmukh. Once again, it was critically and commercially failed due to poor reviews.
It was in the film of Murder 2 (2011) by Mahesh Bhatt that proved her ability in acting. It was her first commercial success movie, and it did not stop there. In the following year, she played another role in Housefull 2 (2012). For your information, she actually had played in the first one too, but it was only a special appearance in a music video. In the sequel one, she got one of the main roles. This film received a number of positive reviews which made it to be one of the top grossing productions in India. In contrast, Fernandez’s performance mostly got negative reviews. In spite of this fact, she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress by IIFA Awards.
Her glorious career as an actor still continued later by taking a role in other successful movies like Race 2, Kick, and even another sequel of Housefull. She even appeared as a judge on 2016 Jhalak Dikhla Jaa season 9 (India’s version of Dancing with the Stars).
The Achievements of Fernandez’s
Looking at how tremendous her career now, it is not surprising if she got an amount of nominations or even won some of them. Besides being nominated or winning for some awards in acting, she also received other achievements in term of style. To illustrate it, in 2016, she won HT Most Stylish Awards and Filmfare Glamour & Style Awards. Of course she also took some awards from her hometown, which was Ada Derana Sri Lankan of the Year for Global Entertainer.
Activities in 2017
From her first debut in 2009 to 2016, Jacqueline Fernandez has proved her quality in acting. Now the year just changed to 2017, and she already got busy with several movie roles. Soon you can see her perfomance in the upcoming thriller film titled According to Matthew. You will also see her in Reloaded in which she is currently filming. In addition, she will star in Judwaa 2, but you have to wait since it is still in pre-production.
Not only is she attractive and talented, but also kind to the others, especially animals. She has been supporting some organizations which are fighting for animal rights. As an example, in 2011, she sent a letter on behalf of PETA to Mumbai Municipal Commissioner to end carriage rides drawn by horses. Two years later, this 31-year-old lady asked the consulate general of Philippines to accelerate the moving process of an elephant from Manila Zoo to more humane reserve. Because of what she did, PETA named her as “Woman of the Year” in 2014.
Of course she did not only focus on animal issues, but also people. In 2013, she donated £4,000 for Pratham NGO to help children’s primary education. In 2016, she joined Jacqueline Builds campaign with the purpose of raising funds to help the victims of 2015 South Indian flood.
