But where do you begin, and how do you go about acquiring the all-important Canadian permanent residency? Within the last five years, the number of Indian immigrants to Canada has grown exponentially, and with good reason. Canada ranks as the country with the best quality of life globally. That is informed by various factors, such as its rich earning potential, friendly policies on immigrants, a robust healthcare system, and comprehensive yet accessible education facilities. It is also one of the most secure countries with a low crime rate and a trustworthy police system. Aside from the well-endowed lifestyle the country offers, its immigration system is open to both skilled and unskilled workers alike, meaning there is something in it for everyone. Luckily for you, so far, Indian nationals have the highest success rate in Immigrate to Canada applications.
In this write-up, we look at the most straightforward ways through which you can quickly secure your dream of immigrating into this beautiful country.
1. Express Entry
With a processing time of 6-12 months, the Express Entry immigration program is one of the quickest pathways to secure a permanent resident visa in Canada.
The Canadian government introduced the program to target those skilled workers both within and out of Canada who wish to acquire permanent residency.
The applicant must be aged 36 years or less, possess a bachelor’s degree, and have at least two years’ worth of work experience. With these credentials, applicants must furnish their detailed CV together with supporting documents when making the application. After that, you will be required to pay the program fees and apply for an educational credential assessment. Trusted immigration agencies such as the Vazir Group are at hand to help you in lodging your application and tracking its processing through the relevant channels.
To this end, you will need to sign a contract with the agent, and they will then help you lodge your Express Entry profile. Using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), your scores will be tabulated to determine your eligibility level. A minimum score of 67 points is necessary. Should you meet this required threshold, you will be informed of your score and receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA).
That is an invitation to submit your documents to the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), formerly known as Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). The IRCC will then confirm your permanent residence visa and will issue a stamped copy thereof.
2. Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs)
Canada has 13 provinces, which have the liberty to conduct their immigration programs. How each of these provinces undertakes its program is dependent on the province’s unique needs and economic setup. Under this scheme, a province must nominate the applicant for a PR visa to issue.
On average, PNPs take between 3- 12 months to be processed and are available for the applicant and their family. To kick off the process, you need to submit your detailed CV and that of your spouse (if applicable). To apply under this program, the applicants must also have three years’ worth of work experience. Aside from that, you will be required to undertake the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test. It is a standard international test proving your English proficiency.
Upon receiving your CV, the government uses the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to rank your eligibility. It is a system that uses several metrics to award a score; the minimum score required being 67 points. The system’s metrics that gauge your eligibility include your education level, Canadian work experience, age, and language proficiency. Once you have a satisfactory CRS score, you will be asked to remit the first installment of your visa processing fees, after which the processing of your application will begin.
That will be closely followed by your payment of the second installment of the fees, and then the province shall issue a nomination letter.
Upon payment of the last installment of fees, a PR is issued, and you are good to go!
3. Quebec Skilled Worker Program
The province of Quebec aims at having a massive intake of immigrants in 2022. It targets absorbing between 27,500 and 29,300 new immigrants within the year, with 24,200 being skilled workers. The rich province also seeks to take in some 10,200 additional new residents via the family sponsorship program. The categories of immigrants under the Quebec program include orderlies, food processing workers, and persons working in Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The province also has a business immigrant segment, catering to investors, entrepreneurs, and the self-employed. The humanitarian immigration category, on the other hand, is a joint sponsorship targeting external refugees.
4. Work Permits/Intra-Company Transfers
Ordinarily, for a work permit to issue, you must have a job offer first. However, you may find yourself automatically eligible for a Canadian work permit if you happen to work for a multinational organization that opts to transfer you to Canada.
In such a case, not much paperwork goes into the processing of your work permit. Nonetheless, the employer must be a multinational corporation with registered offices in Canada. Under this setup, you need to have worked for the company for at least one year.
Also, the position you hold must be a senior or managerial one or one that needs specialized knowledge and expertise. Before making the application under this program, please ensure that the position you hold fits the definition of ‘specialized knowledge’ posts defined by the Canadian government. Besides the above, the company must have made you a formal offer, requesting you to work for its offices or subsidiary in Canada.
