Development of Education throughout the Centuries

With the consistent development in the civilizations of Egypt and Babylon, the necessity of transmission of knowledge to many people increased. To be able to function in the complex civilizations, people needed some way to store, accumulate and preserve knowledge about the cultural heritage and various pieces of information. By living and just doing a particular thing, there was little chance of learning other skills like reading, writing and much more. Education in the ancient Times

Jews were one of the first people that insisted education for all children regardless of the class. Elementary schools were established by Jews where boys from age 6-13 were enrolled and were taught skills like reading, writing and learned basic math. Most institutions during ancient times mainly focused on religious studies. In Ancient Greek, there was a place called Sparta where their main goal is to prepare children for growing up as informed and responsible citizens. The boys who wished to join Sparta had to leave home by the age of 7 and were made to join a group where they were taught by a group of officers. Until the age of 18, they underwent a rigorous training where they learn skills like hunting, running, javelin, swimming, learning archery and much more. By the age of 18, they joined the military cadets and learnt more about the arts of war and by the age of 20, they joined the military or the state militia and they served the nation until the age of 60.

The middle age Education

Most of the practices of the ancient times continued till 18th century until Frederick William II of Prussia introduced a new concept where the responsibility of an education was under the state of a country. This was also the introduction of the ministry of education. This was when all the children under the age of 17 were supposed to attend the schools. This made every child to get educated to an extent. As the concepts in science, social studies, and mathematics were becoming interesting and developing, more people started attending schools. The new developments in the curriculum in schools helped children to learn more about the subjects. With the spirit of nationalism increasing there was an increased belief in education to shape the individuals as well as a country as a whole.

Present day Education

Nowadays, the progression of education is more than ever. Most young people have access to education than before. With the advancement in technologies, online education also is more popular.
