The best 7 Netflix TV Shows for Educational Documentaries

Sometimes, you just need to take a break from hitting the books and chill out with some Netflix. Wondering what to watch? Check out these seven awesome shows. Netflix is one addictive streaming platform site. With countless TV shows and movies, it’s easy for the day to get away from you in a blink of an eye. As a college student, you need a break once in a while from your studies. You have to keep your sanity somehow! And this popular streaming platform can give you time to relax.

From drama-filled shows to educational documentaries, Netflix has it all. Here are seven shows I recommend checking out. You’ll love chilling out, soaking up some knowledge — and getting sucked into shows like One Tree Hill.

Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

1. One Tree Hill

If you’re looking for a TV show that has a lot of heart and drama combined, then give One Tree Hill a try.

One Tree Hill centers on two brothers named Nathan and Lucas. Their father worships Nathan, who has lived with him his entire life. On the other hand, Lucas lives with his mother and doesn’t have a relationship with either his brother or father.

All that changes during the show’s nine seasons, though. Throughout the show, you get to see how two brothers become family. And, you get to witness each of them falling in love and starting their own families.

What’s also worth mentioning is that Nathan and Lucas Scott are easy on the eyes! Watch this show, and the crazy family dynamics will make you think your family is somewhat normal.

Oh, and don’t forget to enjoy the music. There are some epic songs such as “I Don’t Want to Be” by Gavin DeGraw!

2. Love is Blind

Even if you’re not a fan of reality TV, watch an episode or two of Love Is Blind. The basis of this show is going about dating uniquely. People on the show date “blindly” by not seeing the other person.

Couples come together to speed date, if you will, by talking one-on-one in separate pods. You get to see who is in the pods, but they do not!

Watching people date one another without judging their appearance is enlightening. It sure helps them trust in their heart and mind rather than by physical appearance alone!

If the couple decides to move forward and meet in person, then they must get engaged. I won’t reveal what happens. But let’s just say the couples who get engaged have to decide if they want to go through with it by the end of the show. Granted, they’ve only known one another for a few weeks at this point.

Which couples will split and which ones will stay together?

You’ll have to watch the show to find out!

3. Bill Nye Saves the World

We all know who Bill Nye is. He’s an incredibly talented American mechanical engineer, television presenter, and science communicator. And he has graced us with his presence on TV since the early 90s!

Netflix wanted to give Bill Nye a chance to wow us on a new series, so they created Bill Nye Saves the World. And oh wow, is it good! This series is highly entertaining with an educational twist!

Bill Nye covers all sorts of popular topics, from global warming to sleep. Throughout the series, you’ll learn about all kinds of essential issues. You can count on Bill as he informs his viewers what fact vs. fiction is. Plus, there are other scientists on the show to give Bill a helping hand.

If you’re up for some learning and a dose of nostalgia, then start watching Bill Nye Saves the World!

4. Our Planet Educational Show

Another educational show on Netflix is Our Planet. It dives into how global warming affects the planet and all wildlife. This spectacular documentary gives us a tour of the jungles, seas, forests, and deserts. And in the process, it wows us with its many wonders.

One of my favorite episodes: Frozen Worlds.

It gives you glimpses of Antarctica’s wildlife. During this episode, you learn all about polar bears, penguins, and walruses. It’s heartbreaking after discovering how climate change is threatening their way of life.

This show is eye-opening and makes you want to focus on taking better care of our planet!

5. Sugar Rush

Whether you love to bake or not, Sugar Rush is hard to stop watching. During the show, four teams of two compete in a baking competition for a chance to win $10,000. I know — that’s quite the prize!

Throughout the competition, you’ll get to watch these talented professionals bake all sorts of desserts. Seeing creative cakes, towers of cupcakes, and other tantalizing confections is a feast for the eyes!

These bakers live and breathe baking, and their works of art are impressive. Too bad we can’t hop into the TV screen because their desserts are no doubt yummy!

6. The Office

If you haven’t watched The Office by now, you’ve likely been hiding under a rock.

This comedic show reveals to us the inner workings of a quirky office. Interestingly enough, the way they filmed the show caught a lot of people’s attention. Before “reality TV” arrived, The Office mimicked that feeling. The filming and editing were extraordinary! Its unique filming made it more true to life than other comedies airing at the time.

Watch this show, and you’ll find yourself getting attached to the characters. Everyone in The Office certainly knows how to have a good time!

7. Grey’s Anatomy

Grey’s Anatomy is a popular show, and for a good reason. The show has taken its viewers on quite the ride throughout its 17 seasons (it’s still on!).

With many character deaths and true-to-life patient stories, you can’t tear your eyes away. You’ll find yourself becoming a MerDer (Meredith and Derek) fan and may want to give Alex Karev a good shake at times. There are so many twists and turns in this show it’s hard to keep track!

Sure, the patient plots may not seem realistic at times. But lately, with COVID-19, the show has gone out of its way to make things as real as possible.

If you’re thinking of being a doctor, you might want to check this show out. It can give you a glimpse of what it takes to become a world-class surgeon.

If being a doctor doesn’t interest you, it’s still fun to watch. And, as I hinted at, there’s plenty of drama and love stories along the way to keep you entertained for years! (17 years and counting, to be exact!)

Conclusion

When time allows, hop on Netflix and watch one or more of these shows! They’re rather addictive, so it may be best to wait until you have a break. Otherwise, you could end up in class late! Or, you may miss an exam. That would be a tragedy!

There’s no doubt about it. There are all sorts of shows on Netflix to entertain and inspire you. Find one that not only pulls on your heartstrings but sparks some new interests in you as well!
