Insulin Resistance

Normally when we eat our bodies break down food into glucose a type of sugar. Insulin a hormone made by the pancreas helps our cells take in this glucose to use it for energy. This means that even though there is insulin in the body the cells cannot use glucose effectively. At first this may keep blood sugar levels in check but over time the pancreas can become overwhelmed. If the pancreas can’t keep up blood sugar levels start to rise leading to a condition called prediabetes or even type 2 diabetes. This is why insulin resistance is an important health issue to understand.
