Potato Paste

Potato has been known for years for sunburn reliever since it has soothing effects. It works great for relieving minor skin irritations such as bites, scratches, burns, and also reduces skin inflammation. Some people believe potato juice works best, but potato slices are also great. You can try both methods to see which one works best for you. Pick two medium-sized of potatoes, wash and scrub it thoroughly. Then you can choose to grate it, cut it up, or throw it in the blender. If you are using a blender, make sure to blend it into liquid and add some water if it is too thick. If you grate the potatoes, you can apply the pulp on the sunburn area. For simpler use, just slice up some potato and put it on the skin. There is no need to remove the potato peel.

Baking soda or cornstarch

Cornstarch has a cool and silky texture which is great to soothe sunburn skin. Baking soda has the same effect as cornstarch as it relieves the sunburn pain and lessens the redness on the skin. Both products can be easily found in most kitchens even when you are not planning to out in the sun.

For the sunburn reliever, you will need cornstarch or baking soda and cool water. Combine the ingredients and make a paste. Apply the paste on the sunburn area and leave it on until the pain or heat is reduced. Then rinse off with cool water completely. The amount of the paste that you will need depend on the area of the sunburn to cover.

Aloe Vera Lotion

Aloe Vera is famous for numerous skin care including sunburn reliever. The aloe vera gel has the soothing and cooling effect that works magically to suck the redness and sting in the sunburned skin. You can use the store-bought aloe vera gel but the fresh one is better. The plant is very useful for numerous skin ailments, so, it is very handy to grow one in your house. The fresh Aloe Vera is always better since it is free from additives.

For sunburn reliever, you will need a large and thick Aloe Vera leaves or store bought gel. Slit the leaves down instead of cutting it and make sure you only get the gel part inside the leaves. Spread the gel and lay it on the burn areas. If you are using store bought gel, apply it on the sunburned skin.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil works best as sunscreen and it also works like magic to treat sunburned skin. The substance in coconut oil, Lauric acid, promotes fast sunburn skin healing. The substance also presents in numbers of cosmetics and skincare to treat skin irritations.

To treat sunburn skin, you will need coconut oil in a small bowl and mix it with Aloe Vera gel or lavender oil. Mix the ingredients well and apply on the affected skin. You do not need to rinse after apply because the skin will absorb the coconut oil. If you are using coconut oil, make sure not to use it directly after getting sunburn. Wait for a day or more after the sunburn.

Mint and Tea

Mint naturally has soothed and cooling agent. It is very beneficial for numbers of skin ailments including sunburn. Theobromine and tannic acid found in mint is the pain reliever and promotes skin damage healing for topical apply. Add mint and tea, you will get a magical sunburn reliever.

To treat sunburn skin, you will need 5 bags of green tea, 1 quart of boiling water, 3 cups fresh mint leaves, and cotton pads. Bring the water to boil and put the tea bags and mint leaves in a separate pan. Pour the boiling water into the pan and cover it with a lid. Then strain and chill the mixture. After it is completely chill, you can use a cotton pad or cloth soaked in the mint tea and apply on the burned skin.

You can use the freshly sliced cucumber or the juice; both work like magic. For sunburn reliever, you will need one fresh and chilled cucumber. If you want a quick pain reliever, just slice up the cucumber and apply it on the burned skin. Flip the cucumber when the first side is no longer cool. For a longer cooling effect, blend the cucumber using a blender and add cornstarch or aloe vera to make a thick paste. Apply the paste to the sunburned area.


Yogurt has mounted of benefits, especially for the digestion system. Surprisingly, yogurt also works like magic for sunburn reliever, but you need to make sure that the yogurt is plain instead of flavored. To relieve the sunburned skin, you will need a half cup of plain yogurt or more as needed. Apply the yogurt in the burned area and let it sit for about 5 minutes. If the pain and heat reduce, rinse off with cool water.
