However, it took 5 years for the emperor to marry Mumtaz.

During Jahan’s military campaigns, she always accompanied him. While gave birth to her 14th child, namely Gauharara Begum. She died due to complications and postpartum hemorrhage. It took 30 hours of delivery pain. Shah Jahan was shocked of his beloved’s death. He gave the order to the entire kingdom into 2 years of mourning. Actually, Mumtaz’s death could have been avoided if there was prompt and adequate blood loss replacement.

Arjumand bore 14 kids for Shah Jahan in her 19 years of matrimony. 7 of them were died in infancy while 3 daughters and 4 sons survived. It’s a fact that Mumtaz’s death was indeed a maternal death. Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal as the love representation towards Mumtaz. This majestic building contained so much love and labor. There was much material and money put into this palace. The major material used for the structure was sandstone. Then, it’s covered in marble. Jade and jasper were placed on it. Solid gold was used to make the finials. Later, British Imperialists replaced them with brass.

Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal to honor his spouse’s dying aspiration. He also wanted to find the peace from the sadness of losing his beloved wife. When it’s completed, Mumtaz was entombed there, just as she wanted. His son, Aurangzeb imprisoned Jahan for using the family’s virtue to build the building, which affected to empire’s strength. Jahan was imprisoned for 18 years in the Agra Fort. The Taj Mahal was built using materials from Asia and India. It’s said over thousand of elephants were utilized to transport the materials.

The interior part of this building is beyond decorative elements of traditional usage. There are many precious gemstones within. The design of the inner chamber is an octagon. It seems the height of interior walls is 82 feet. The exterior decoration of this building becomes one of the best among Mughal architecture. It’s proportionally refined. Stucco paint becomes the major decorative element of the exterior part of the Taj Mahal. There are many motifs of calligraphy craved on it.

In 2001, there’s a record about 2 million visitors of this majestic place. There are 2 pricing system to enter this palace. Foreigners should spend more money for the entrance fee. This area is open from 6am – 7 pm everyday, except Friday for prayers. For security reasons, visitors are allowed to bring 5 items such as video cameras, water bottles, camera, cell phone, and small purses.
